Index Ventures is a venture capital firm that invests in technology and life sciences companies. It was founded in 1996 and has offices in San Francisco, London, and Geneva.

It is arguably the most successful venture firm in Europe and the UK, having invested in three of the UK’s 10 biggest venture deals (Revolut, Wise, and Deliveroo), as well as the likes of Patreon, Flipboard, Adyen, Funding Circle, Robinhood, Skype, Slack, Stack Overflow, and too many others to mention.

The fund’s total assets exceeds €11.7 billion (US$12.7B), and it closed a trio of new funds worth US$3.1 billion in 2021. It has made over 1,100 investments, 241 of which have exited.

As we’ve come to expect of high-performing firms, they’re not shy when it comes to content.

In fact, Index’s website drew over 185,000 visits in October of 2023 (below), which would place it fifth in our ranking of VC website traffic - testament to the quality and quantity of content it publishes.

This is to say nothing of traffic on other platforms that the firm is very active on.

Let’s dive in and take a closer look at how Index does content.

Website

Index’s website is clean, classy, and easy to navigate - just what you’d expect from a top tier venture firm.

Articles

Index has publishes countless hundreds of articles that are broken down into founder spotlights, company-building insights, and news.

The firm publishes Close Ups which are essentially longform deep dives into topics such as AI, leadership, business models, and more.

Its company spotlights offer portfolio founders an opportunity to tell their story and celebrate their journey and achievements.

Video

Index comes into its own with video content, publishing a handful of video series, including Candid with Index, Index OnAir, Catching Up With…, as well as numerous videos from conference appearances.
Its video conversations are typically recorded in-person and captured professionally, complete with camera switching, per the below.

Some of the firm’s more popular videos have received over 80,000 views on YouTube.

Resources

The firm has published several founder-centric resources, which it calls definitive guides to key challenges facing entrepreneurs.
These guides extend to topics such as expanding into Europe, expanding into the US, and how to effectively reward talent with stock options.

Podcast

The firm hasn’t invested as much energy into its podcast as it does video and articles. Its podcast, Index Audio, boasts near fifty episodes, with the most recent episode having been published back in December 22, as part of its Gaming Summit.

Events

Index has invested in the likes of Discord, Roblox, King, and Dream, so they clearly have an interest in the massive gaming market which generates over US$170 billion a year.

As such, the firm hosted its inaugural Index Gaming Summit in 2022, which featured speakers from Discord, King, Backbone, and many more.

Watch key moments from the summit below.

Social Media

Index Ventures boasts over 100,000 followers on Twitter, where it is modestly active, sharing portfolio company news and new content about once a week.

It has an even bigger following on LinkedIn of over 130,000 people. There it has dabbled with hosting online events and webinars such as its Open Source Summit, and Not Optional - Making Europe the Most Entrepreneurial Continent.

Final Thoughts

Despite its impressive track record, Index continues to invest heavily in content, continuing to solidify its brand as an ideal partner for trans-continental startups.

It has an internal team of half a dozen marketing resources, and likely uses external support
